Retention Tiers

1. Active Research Ceph Storage (ceph-rbd and cephfs): Persistent block (ceph-rbd) and shared POSIX (cephfs) storage retained throughout the lifetime of the funded project or grant.
2. Local Node NVMe Scratch (emptyDir): Ephemeral. Automatically cleared whenever the pod terminates or restarts.

Fair-Share Storage Usage

• Volume Sizing & Expansion: Both ceph-rbd and cephfs volumes enforce the capacity limit chosen in resources.requests.storage and support online volume expansion. Request a practical initial size and expand your PVC if you need more space later, rather than over-allocating upfront.
• Shared Pool Stewardship: Because storage pools are shared across LBNL research groups, please periodically clean up obsolete intermediate checkpoints, uncompressed temporary dumps, and unused datasets.
• Monitor your active workloads and volumes in the User Portal Dashboard or with Radar.
